This Guard Dog Is For The Birds on Flickr.

I can’t use my front door because of Miss Thing here. She has a nest right across from the door and parks here big feathery rear right in front of it. She’s always there, day or night. I can see the nest through the door window and yesterday, there were two babies squawking up there. The day before there was three, so I braved her wrath and went out there. After around ten minutes of being dive bombed, I finally found baby number three. It seemed O.K. so i went and got a plastic baggie for my hand and a ladder and was able to place it back in the nest. She hasn’t thrown it out and I still see here going up there feeding them so I have hope she is not rejecting it.

This is the second round of babies this year (apparently she is a hussy). I got to see something I have never seen before during the first round, I got to watch here teach here babies to fly. She sat in a small tree screeching like crazy until the baby flew too her. Then she flew down to a rock about 20 feet away and started screeching all over again until the baby flew to her again. Next was the fence, then to the backyard, then to the neighbors tree and so on for about a half hour.

As cool as this has been, I’ve been throwing tiny condoms out the front door in hopes it wont happen a third time. Wish me luck.

When I got a text from Fred Flintstone’s IStone asking me if I wanted to go bowling, I enthusiastically texted back you betcha! It wasn’t until I arrived at the Bedrock Bowl-O-Rama that I realized just how small the Flintstones really are. It was a tight squeeze but I managed to make it in. The hardest part was getting my balls in.
Huh? Why are you snickering? Ohhhhhhhhh.

The whole point of Chinese food (as yummy as it is) is to finish off the meal with a fortune cookie. As the last bite of Kung Pao Chicken reaches your lips, you eye the crescent moon cookie in the cheap plastic wrap, giddy with anticipation to find out what your fortune will be. “You will come across good fortune in a week”, “A change for the better is on it’s way” or “Your hair will grow back this year” (although, had I known it meant in my ears, I would of tossed that one). “Reward yourself with a Gift” is NOT a fortune! It’s a statement. I feel totally ripped off. Did Confucius go on vacation? Has Walmart taken over the fortune cookie business? Fine. My gift to me is to smash this stale cookie with a waste of a good fortune inside and leave a trail of proverbial bread crumbs to the back door of this “I’m to cheap to afford real fortune cookies” chinese resteraunt for all the bugs to follow. I was on the way to the mailbox. I hear this terrible hissing sound mixed with a low roar. I crouch down to get out of site and hide between the two cars in the driveway. I stay there until the awful sound subsides. I pop my head up to see if I am out of danger and low and behold I see the horrific predator straight in front of me as if he wanted to pounce.

I retreated to the garage and ran to the house. I scurried through the house like a rat being chased by a cay as I looked for my camera. Wit camera in tow, I headed back to the front line of danger. I set my camera how I wanted it, because I thought I would only have one chance to digitally record proof of such a beast living in my city of Desert Hot Springs. I crawled to the front of the cars to get a look and there it stood; Staring at me with it’s hungry eyes. I took my chances and crept up upon the beast and got into position to shoot this photo.

Friday, June 9th, 2013 was so far the hottest gay we have seen in Palm Springs. So what do I do? I go out into the blazing sun to get the greatest photo ever taken of Air Force One as it swoops down out of the sky and touches down in Palm Springs.
Did I get that photo? Nope… I stood out in the sand so long that I had to run back to the car to get into some shade then I missed the million dollar shot. I was able to jump out of the car and get this shot though. It’s not what I wanted to get, but I’m happy with it.

It Wasn’t that the temperature was in the triple digits. (Not Celsius, for all you that just fainted) And it wasn’t that I had to lay down on the hot ground with rocks poking me. It was the fact that I looked EVERYWHERE to make sure there were no bugs yet one lone giant ant crawled up my shorts and bit me in the rear!

The Godfather (I couldn’t find a horses head and my other half was really opposed to having it in the bed anyway)

Star Wars (I ate the sticky buns I was gonna use for my Princess Leia hair)

The Hathaway Fire near Morongo Valley is around 25 percent controlled. There are over 1000 Firefighters fighting this fire. The fire does not threaten any structures. It’s a really hard fire to control because it is such rough terrain with no access roads.

This was my view last night around 9 pm from my Desert Hot Springs home. The Hathaway fire burning in Morongo Valley peaking the crest of the mountains. Never seen anything like this before. The shot is a long exposure, 30 seconds and is straight out of the camera.

Just so we are clear, I am in no danger at the moment. The winds are picking up something fierce but it would be a long shot to make it here.

and I stood in 113 degree weather with no trees and I forgot my Popsicle at home. I hope he appreciates me.

President Obama is here to visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. SInce I am only a couple miles from the Airport, I just had to go stand out there and wait. To me, I got to see a part of an historic event. Even if my hair did catch on fire from the heat. Don’t worry about me though, my gallons of sweat put it out.

The Lives Of Others on Flickr.

Shy or slightly odd. Maybe they just look, walk or talk different. They stand behind the fence staring out at the world passing by them. Quiet. Wishing.

We stroll by, stop talking, glance away and keep to our side of the fence. We continue on with our day.

It’s not the lives of others that needs to be changed, it’s our own.

I’ve been working on getting this photo right for a couple of days now and I just couldn’t get it to look like the way I see it in my head. Then I get a text at work from the Bozo in the other room that says, “hey, take a look at the photo I just put up”. So I did. THAT is the photo I was trying to get. I think he deserves a bottle of Rat Bastard Root Beer, that rat bastard! I put his photo in the comments section because quite frankly I am both jealous and proud of the shot. Have you ever had a moment when you see something spectacular and it’s going to leave or go away, but you’re just not in the best position to shoot it? Well, it happened to me the other day.
We were on the outskirt of Desert Hot Springs in North Palm Springs and the sun was ready to disappear, but my location really sucked. Literally just a few minutes prior I had no idea the sun, sky, and mountains were going to treat me to such a beautiful sight that it would strike me to my photo taking core.
My husband and I were just out kicking around in the desert (no, we were seriously off of the road into the desert) looking for pics to take when all of the sudden the light was diminishing rapidly. It’s hard to grasp how quickly it can get dark so fast if you live in an environment where there are no mountains and you can see a flat horizon like on the west coast beaches, out on the plains, or even a city without tall buildings, but if you have ever been to Palm Springs you may know that the city sits at the base of a 10,834 feet (3,302 m) San Jacinto mountain to its west.
Well, it was getting dark so quickly that we headed to the car and just before we got there the sky seemed to light up like we were watching an elaborate firework show. I ran across the street,Set the camera for 7 bracketed shots, hit the ground, and started shooting. I didn’t process the photos until a day or two later and I was amazed and what I was able to capture. I am so happy with what I saw on the screen, but the only thing I could think was, “Damn Power Lines”.
